To justify its terrible crimes and their impact on the Muslims of this world, ISIS has based its ideology on a superficially literal view of sacred texts of Islam – the Holy Quran and prophetic tradition – thereby manipulating religion to recruit angry young Muslims who have little knowledge of Islamic theology and jurisprudence.
Muslim scholars are therefore called upon to respond with a counter-narrative that explains the true teachings of Islam and its commitment to respect and humanity.
