Being Muslim
Sheikh Nazim
The fundamental knowledge unfolded in this book helps Muslims grow more deeply into their religion daily and partake in a blessing that gives their entire lives heavenly strength, beauty, and honor.
Foreword
Many books bear Maulana Shaykh Nazim's (ق) name. Most are transcriptions of his speeches or edited versions thereof. Many of these he reviewed and approved. However, the book presented here is the only one he authored himself.
Maulana wrote it in the 1950s, three decades after the founding of the Turkish Republic. A generation earlier, written Turkish had been switched from the Arabic to the Latin alphabet, which was intended to make it impossible for the average Turkish reader to read Ottoman literature. Maulana wrote this small book to remind Turkish people and those in Cyprus of their religious duties and their Ottoman heritage. Some allusions to Ottoman history may not be familiar to the non-Turkish reader.
The book contains the basic knowledge that every Muslim should have. It was intended for everyone and is therefore written in clear language and easy to understand. In 2012, Maulana asked us to reissue the original, and, following his instruction, we distributed the book to our Turkish-speaking visitors who wanted to know more about their religion. Since then, however, there has been a need to provide something for Western visitors as well, especially these days, when so much misinformation is circulating and so many supposedly Islamic sources are so unreliable. So, the idea came to me to have this booklet translated into English and German to serve this purpose.
May Allah grant that this book serves Islam and benefits those who seek the straight path; thus Maulana's intention would be fulfilled.
