The Path of the Companions (E-Book)

With the title presented here, we began a series of publications in 1991 under the name "Turban Verlag" with the intention of making living testimonies of the authentic tradition of Sufism accessible to German-speaking readers, who are generally educated in the Western tradition. Through stories and lessons from a master, it was intended to "provide insight into the fascinating world of Sufi schools – their paths and rituals, the flashes of wisdom and piety of their sheikhs – and at the same time attempt to make moments of a way of spirituality palpable, which does not primarily appeal to the intellect or the judgment of the reader, but aims directly at their heart."

Sheikh Muhammad Nâzim ‘Adl al-Haqqânî an-Naqshband, the fortieth Sheikh in the chain of transmission of the honorable Naqshbandi-Tariqat, the most famous of all Sufi orders, is known worldwide as a master of Suhbats, the gathering of students with the Sheikh. In it, the Sheikh speaks, the students listen, and a blessing comes over the assembly. A mysterious power permeates them. Everyone has the impression that the Sheikh is speaking about their problem and only to them.

The main part of the texts presented here for the first time in German is based on teachings given by Sheikh Nâzim in Germany and Switzerland in the summer of 1984 and in Cyprus in the winter of 1985. A selection of more recent lessons has been added to the translation of the English original text.

May the words of Sheikh Nâzim – he speaks with the authority and on behalf of Grand Sheikh ‘Abdullâh Fâ‘iz ad-Dagistânî – benefit all those who, having reached the end of their own wisdom, are earnestly searching and willing to be found. A special blessing is wished upon them on the path of fellow travelers.
